You might think that earning a living as a professional speaker and mindset coach is a glamorous life. To tell you the truth, some weeks are more exciting than others.

You might think that earning a living as a professional speaker and mindset coach is a glamorous life. To tell you the truth, some weeks are more exciting than others. The exciting weeks often include travel to exotic places like Northwest Indiana and working with super cool people to dissolve the mental blocks that have them stuck. Yet, other weeks are not as eventful as the travel weeks.

As it is with many of my fellow speaking professionals, when we are not traveling or coaching, we tend to work in our home offices writing speeches, blog posts, and books, only accompanied by a canine or feline companion. (In my case, there are two high-maintenance canine companions, Pinot and Comet.) It can be a pretty lonely existence.

Recently, during one of those less eventful weeks, where there was little human contact, I started to feel apathetic. It was almost like I didn’t care about my work, my clients, or even the book I was about to release. The book release should have made this week an exciting time, but I wasn’t feeling it. Not only was I feeling apathetic, but I was bored. None of the tasks on my To Do List were remotely enticing or fun. Frankly, I just didn’t want to do them, so I didn’t.

Then one morning while I was sipping coffee seated on my office sofa (one of my many forms of procrastination), I had a thought, “Maybe I can change how I’m feeling.”

That causal thought was followed by a question, “What tool could I use to change my experience, a tool that would make my apathy and boredom go away?” I knew if I could clearly articulate what I was feeling, I could change it. The problem was that I didn’t have a clue about how to describe it. Was it really apathy? Was the feeling of sadness, resignation, or depression? Or was I just bored? I couldn’t figure it out.

So, I did what I often do when I’m having difficulty making a decision – I bypass my logical-brain and ask my subconscious mind to speak up. Other people meditate to get answers. In my case, I use muscle testing. It allows me to get past my conscious, logical-thinking mind and access a deeper level of knowing.

For those of you who are not familiar with muscle testing, it is a method to gain information by watching how a set of muscles respond to pressure. Muscle testing is a process that allows the body’s profound wisdom to answer questions without being influenced by an individual’s thoughts or emotions.

So, I tested. I asked yes or no questions to identify the beliefs and emotions that had caused me to feel apathetic. I asked questions like, "Am I unmotivated?" The answer was, "no." "Do I have a hormone imbalance?" The answer was, "no." I asked about four questions before I came to my first 'yes' answer. I asked, "Am I afraid that I will feel overwhelmed if I do all the things I’d like to do?" I received a strong answer, "Yes." "Am I afraid that I’ll not be able to keep up with the demand and will disappoint someone?" "Yes.” Do I believe that I am capable of doing all the wonderful and creative things I’m imagining?" "Yes."

It was at that moment, I realized that my unsupportive beliefs and fears of overwhelm and failure, were making me feel apathetic and bored. I wasn’t either of those things. I had developed a series of thoughts that caused me to believe that I couldn’t keep up with all that I was inspired to do. And as a result, I shut off my energy and excitement to protect myself. How silly is that? (Don’t answer that question.) I was holding myself back from performing the activities I loved. The actions that were actually going to raise my energetic vibration, enthusiasm, and excitement.

When I discovered the truth of what was going on, I knew I could change it. I cleared the false beliefs that were holding me back by using one of the twelve techniques in my book, Emotional Self Mastery. Afterward, I felt inspired, invigorated, and ready to kick-butt and take names for the rest of the day. My productivity was off the charts, not only for the rest of the day but for the weeks that followed.

Do you want to learn how you can change your unsupportive beliefs and emotions? Buy my book, Emotional Self Mastery, The Best Book on Regaining Personal Power, Self-Confidence, and Peace. Available December 12 on Amazon and Kindle.

Psst! At only $15.95, it would make a great Christmas gift for friends and family.

Astonishing Results http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/32-astonishing-results http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/32-astonishing-results Astonishing Results

Astonishing results occur when you step out of your comfort zone.

Think about it. How often you do you take the same route to work or from work? I'd be willing to bet that you travel the same streets and freeways ninety-five percent of the time. In fact, you probably travel the same routes to and from so often that you don't even notice the individual cars and buildings along the way.

A week or so ago, I decided to step out of my comfort zone to attend a 7:30 AM book study group. This book study is unique in two ways – you need only show up for one meeting, and you don't have to read the book. The reason you don't have read the book is that someone else handles that and then provides a summary of the most important concepts. (This is my kind of book study.)

The book study also provides an opportunity to meet and connect with people that you might not have met in other situations. Because I stepped out and tried something new, I received an invitation to participate in the host's upcoming podcast. This is something I've been wanting to do.

When we do the same thing day in and day-out we establish patterns. Those repeating patterns make us feel safe and comfortable because they are familiar. But think about this. Staying in the same pattern, playing it safe, could be holding you back -– keeping you from experiencing something new and exciting? It could be keeping you from achieving greater heights?

Where in your life do need to step out a little more? Is it at work? Have you been wanting to learn something new, do a different job? Maybe you'd like to step out in your self-expression. Like learning to express yourself through art, dance, or music. Have you ever considered auditioning for the cast of a play?

Stepping out can be scary. Here are five ways to expand your awareness without taking a giant leap into the unknown.

  1. Change your route to and from work
  2. Purchase and read a magazine from an industry other than your own
  3. Attend a networking event and strike up a conversation with just one person
  4. Go to lunch at a restaurant you have never been to before
  5. Rearrange the furniture in your workspace or home

Simple actions like these can result in astonishing results. Try implementing a couple of them to see what can occur for you. You will likely be astonished.

Ta ta for now.

Cheryl

What Are You Tolerating? http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/31-what-are-you-tolerating http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/31-what-are-you-tolerating What Are You Tolerating?

I can still remember my mother saying to me as a child, "Cheryl, I will not tolerate that behavior."

I can still remember my mother saying to me as a child, "Cheryl, I will not tolerate that behavior." Of course, at this point, I can't remember what I had done that she couldn't tolerate. However, at the time I knew that if I continued down whatever path I was on I would end up receiving a spanking. And yes, there were plenty of times I kept traveling the path.

Tolerations are those things we put up with. They can be a nagging pain in the back. It can be the disrespectful or inappropriate behavior of others. It can the unsupportive thoughts or words we say to ourselves. It can also include the ‘stuff' around us, like those junk drawers that are filled to the brim. A disorganized garage or an over-stuffed closet housing clothing in 3 different sizes.

Two of my tolerations include a bathroom drawer that holds many mostly empty lipsticks, blushes, and other makeup containers and the cabinet beneath that drawer which houses who-knows-what. I know it makes no sense that I hold on to these items. But I haven't been willing to get in there to clean those two places out. Yet, I know that once I commit and do it, my mind, body, and spirit will feel free.

Tolerating messy drawers and cabinets is the same as tolerating bad thoughts and outdated beliefs – both weigh you down and drain your creative energy. When you notice a repeating unsupportive thought like, ‘I'm not worthy enough,' ‘I don't deserve to have ___' it is important that you immediately pluck it from your mind and replace it with one of higher value and vibration. When you recognize and remove not only the physical tolerations in your life but also the thought tolerations, you will live a more vibrant, happy life.

Do Your Thoughts Have Power Over You? http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/30-do-your-thoughts-have-power-over-you http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/30-do-your-thoughts-have-power-over-you Do Your Thoughts Have Power Over You?

What do you think? Do your thoughts have power over you or do you hold the power over your thoughts? Could your thoughts be holding you back?

What do you think? Do your thoughts have power over you or do you hold the power over your thoughts? Could your thoughts be holding you back? Could they be causing you to play-it-safe instead of chasing your dreams? How can you know if your mind is getting in your way?

Name the first thing that comes to mind as you read these three questions:

  1. What is one thing that you would like to create in your life?
  2. How badly do you want it?
  3. What stands in the way of you having it?

The question that I’m most interested in is #3. How did you answer it? Did you say something like, I don’t have enough education, money, or time?

Reasons or Excuses?

We, humans are always giving reasons, a.k.a. excuses, why we can’t have what we want. If we were to look more deeply, beyond our immediate response, we would see that the real reason is not a lack of education, money or time. It’s not even our family obligations or our spouse. The real answer lies in the thoughts and stories we tell ourselves about what IS and IS NOT possible for us. It’s that story you are telling yourself that holds you back.

As you repeat it to yourself and as you tell others the reasons why you can’t have what you want, you embed the excuse deeper into your subconscious—creating your truth. From this position of what you say is true, it becomes increasingly difficult to see an alternative path toward what it is you want.

However, what if you could change your thoughts? Reprogram your mind, change the very messages that are holding you back. What might happen then? Couldn’t that eventually influence your subconscious truths and thus, ultimately change your outcome? I believe it can. I believe it can because I’ve done it several times.

Not Taking Real Action on Your Goals?

If you’re not going after your goals and dreams, take a moment to notice what you say to yourself (and others) about your efforts toward those goals. Every time you notice yourself making an excuse for why you aren’t acting on your goals, say out loud, “Cancel, cancel! That is not the truth.” Then replace the original statement with a positive, empowering one. If you are telling yourself that you ‘can’t lose weight,’ try flipping the switch by saying, “Cancel, cancel! That is not the truth. The truth is I haven’t tried very hard to lose weight. Starting today, I will choose to eat smaller portions and eat more vegetables with each meal.”

You have the power to make miraculous changes in your life. You can do so by doing two things, 1) become conscious of your limiting thoughts, and 2) choose to rewrite unsupportive thoughts to be empowering and encouraging.

Try this experiment

For the next seven days, select one goal on which to focus and practice rephrasing your limiting thoughts. Then notice how the feeling of possibility starts to grow within you. What you once thought was impossible will begin to shift. You will experience renewed excitement, and unseen opportunities will be revealed as your goal grows nearer.

Good luck. I wish you the very best in reaching your goals.

Two Reasons Why You’re Not Getting What You Want (and they are not what you would think) Part 2 http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/29-two-reasons-why-you-re-not-getting-what-you-want-and-they-are-not-what-you-would-think-part-2 http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/29-two-reasons-why-you-re-not-getting-what-you-want-and-they-are-not-what-you-would-think-part-2 Two Reasons Why You’re Not Getting What You Want (and they are not what you would think) Part 2

Last week we talked about how people tend of make New Year’s resolutions and then their goal falls flat, never achieved...

Last week we talked about how people tend of make New Year’s resolutions and then their goal falls flat, never achieved. We also discussed how those resolutions hold little teeth because they are seldom crystal clear. Clarity is first secret to manifesting your desired outcome.

The second reason you are not getting what you want is likely due to fear. Yes, fear. I know that may sound strange, being afraid of reaching your goal or getting what you want.

Fear comes in many varieties. Sometimes it is the fear of what you'll need to do to get there. There is also the fear of the unknown. It can be the fear of failure, or the opposite, the fear of success. Occasionally there might be the fear of reaching your goal and then not liking the result. We certainly can’t forget to mention, fear of what others will think, and the fear of outshining someone else. As you can see there are a lot of dimensions to fear.

The second secret to reaching your goal is recognizing and resolving the fear that holds you back.

Take a few minutes to think about the reasons (excuses) you give for not going after your goal. What are they?

Look behind the fear to see if you can identify the real reason you’ve stopped working on your goal. What thought lingers in the shadows? Bring it out into the light. Examine it. Ask yourself, is that thought true? Very often that shadow thought has no basis. What I’ve learned is that scary things are rarely frightening once they’ve been brought into the light.

Don’t allow false fear or lack of clarity keep you from achieving your goals.

Until next time, I’m wishing you success.

Have you ever noticed how many people make bold New Year’s resolutions and then by March they are all but forgotten? Have you ever wondered why that happens?

Have you ever noticed how many people make bold New Year’s resolutions and then by March they are all but forgotten? Have you ever wondered why that happens? Why is it that we find it difficult to stick to and reach our goals?

I asked busy professional women and men what gets in the way of them achieving their goals, the women responded by pointing out the countless number of work and family demands. Their main complaint was, “there’s not enough time.” The men’s responses were slightly different. They were focused on the barriers to reaching their goals – other people, earning a living, money, or the assumption that their dream wasn’t possible.

If you are not getting what you want from life it is likely due to two things, the first is a lack of clarity. Getting specific about what you desire is the first step to manifesting it. Think of it this way, let’s say you decide to order a pizza, but forgot to tell the pizza maker what ingredients you want on it. How would he know what to include? Without specific instructions you get what you get, and it may not be what you want.

When you clearly describe your goal, you are notifying the Universe of what you intend to create. When this happens, it becomes a co-creation process between you and the Universe.

For the next three days, challenge yourself to get specific about one project or goal you want to accomplish. Write it down. Describe it using every descriptive phrase you can think of. Then add in a description of what you will feel like once it is accomplished. Dwell on your goal’s description and the emotions all week as you imagine it completed. As you think about it, ask to be guided toward the next logical step. I expect that you will see doors open and answers pop up where you didn’t expect them.

Next week, I'll share the second reason why you’re not getting what you want.

Until then, warm wishes for your success.

Ahh, the month of August, it signals a transition is on its way. After three months of chaos caused by a lack of structure, trying to keep the kids busy, and stay cool, we welcome the return of the predictable patterns of Fall. That's why the end of August is my time to refocus and reactivate my goals.

What project did you start this year but haven’t been able to complete?

What goal did you set that hasn’t been realized?

It’s not too late! Now, is the perfect time for you to get started again. Follow theses simple steps to cultivate your motivated and get energetically back on track.

Take 20 minutes to dwell on that project, goal or dream no yet accomplished. Remember the original intention behind the goal. Why did you want to accomplish it in the first place? What will it bring you?

As you dwell on your answers, imagine what it would feel like to have your goal complete. Can you sense the feelings of accomplishment, pride, or joy? If not, allow your imagination to create those feelings for you. Or remember those feelings from another time your felt successful and then apply them to your project.

Practice feeling the emotion of accomplishment several time a day. See if you can sustain the feeling for at least 5 minutes each time you think about it. Keep imagining your project as complete. This will create the energy and momentum you will need to take the next step toward your goal.

August is the perfect time for you to restart your goal? Don’t wait. Start thinking about it today.

Warmest wishes for success,

Cheryl

P.S. If you find that you need help, think about joining me for one of my Success Principles in-person workshops or a mini-retreat. The next opportunity is scheduled for Saturday, September 29. More information will be coming soon.

Ponder this: What problem are you working on in your business, that if you had the right resource would change the trajectory of your business?

I expect that the majority of business people would say their problem is money. Next, there would likely be a large group who would say, people. "I don't have the right people." Yet, I believe that their problem isn't money or people. I believe that the problem lies in the owner's or manager's mindset.

Given your answer to the question above, ask yourself this, Do I have a scarcity mindset or an expectant mindset? Your answer will reveal a lot.

Minimizing Stress for MS Patients & Families http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/25-ms-article http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/25-ms-article EFT Tapping Chart

What most healthy people don’t know about those with MS, and their family members, is the amount of stress they are under on a daily basis and the emotional toll it takes on relationships, self-esteem and resilience.

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS most often affects people between the age of 20 and 50 years of age, although it can occur in a person of any age or gender. There is no known cause for MS, nor a cure. What science has told us is that reducing stress and eating a heart healthy diet are two things that can positively impact the feeling of wellbeing of those with MS.

If you are not close to someone who has MS, you may not know that a person has this chronic illness until the symptoms become physically obvious. Individuals with MS experience a wide range of symptoms, some noticeable, while others are more subtle.  In fact, an individual with MS may look like he is doing fine, yet on the inside he may be feeling physically weak and fatigued, as well as, feeling depressed or sad.

Those whose lives have been touched by MS may have in fact experienced more difficultly in navigating the emotional roller coaster than the physical limitations. I learned this last year, when I spoke to a group of MS patients and their families.  Immediately, following the program, a man in his mid-forties approached me to talk. He shared that he previously had been a “long-hall truck driver, making really good money until he got MS.” Now, he can no longer work. He and his family are dependent on his wife’s small paycheck to feed them. He said, “I’m supposed to be the bread-winner. Now, I can’t work. I don’t feel like a man anymore.” This is just one example of the kind of emotional responses that can occur.

There are as many emotional issues associated with having MS as there are people who have it. Yet, the one thing that MS patients have in common with all of us is the ability to choose our thoughts and feelings.

I have heard many people say, “I just can’t help the way I’m feeling.” I disagree! You can. And I can, too. The first thing to do is recognize the feelings you are feeling and label them. Give each feeling a name or a descriptor. Your feeling words for a situation might include: sad, frustrated, disappointed, angry, resentful, pissed off, mad, worried. Once you have at least some of the words identified you are ready to go on to your next step – tapping.

Tapping is using your body’s own meridian energy system to clear negative emotions and put you back on a positive track. The tapping tool I am sharing with you in the audio files below will help ease your negative feelings, taking the energy out of emotions so that you and your family can enjoy more happiness and joy. The tool is called, “The Emotional Freedom Technique” (or tapping). To see what this technique is about, follow this link to watch a cool video explanation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFKVVP8KXd4 . When you’re finished watching, return to this page to listen to the audios and tap along so you can release your unwanted negative emotions. The Science of Resilience http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/24-the-science-of-resilience http://simplythebestresults.com/blogs-and-vlogs/item/24-the-science-of-resilience The Science of Resilience

Why do some adults struggle and feel overwhelm, while others thrive in stressful environments? Recent research conducted by the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child suggests that the answer may lie in the early stages of childhood development.

Why do some adults struggle and feel overwhelm, while others thrive in stressful environments? Recent research conducted by the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child suggests that the answer may lie in the early stages of childhood development.

Between the ages of birth and 14 months is when a child’s brain is developing the fastest. It is during this period that the brain requires two things – a stable environment and a committed relationship with at least one primary caregiver. These two factors allow the portion of the brain responsible for executive function – where self-regulation is housed – to develop properly.

What does this have to do with you and your ability to be resilient?
Your lack of resilience may not be your fault. Instead, it may lie in your early childhood experiences. If your family moved several times when you were very small, you may have perceived those experiences as threatening or unstable. If you spent an extended time in the hospital due to a premature birth or due to an illness, your interpretation of those events could be that life is frightening and unsafe. When an infant experiences events that are interpreted as unstable or constantly changing, the limbic brain gets activated. The limbic brain is the portion that is responsible for our fight, flight or freeze response. When this portion of the brain is accessed repeatedly it causes it to develop faster than other areas, because the child feels like his life is in survival mode.

Although there is little that you can do to change your early childhood circumstances, you can develop skills that will allow you to change your current-day response to stressful situations. In fact, you can easily and quickly learn techniques that will build your resilience-muscle, so that you are less effected by the daily challenges of work deadlines, traffic jams, demanding bosses, family responsibilities, and the never-ending list of to-dos. It begins with intentional breathing.
